Those who love and visit and study and celebrate the Stonehenge that we know today are very concerned that it may soon be changed forever. The beautiful sunsets and sunrises of this site may be damaged by pollution. No, not classic pollution such as air, or water, but light and noise. There is a proposal to build a 1.8 mile tunnel-road as they are calling it adjacent to the sacred site. If the proposal as it stands now is accepted the western tunnel entrance will line up with sunset through the stones ( purposely designed by Stonehenge Engineers) on the winter solstice. Headlights will cloud the view of this sunset as we know it today and traffic noise my add pollution to this pristine site. A group of 21 archaeology experts from across the country have expressed their concern. Public discussion runs through March 5th.

Question: Should all efforts be made by the Government decision makers to alter the proposed road design to preserve this 4, 000 year old site or is the will of the Government stronger than public opinion ?

They need to leave the area alone. For even more than this reason. They are still finding more archaeological finds in the area all the time. Building anything like this could impact more historical finds.

Also, the whole idea of this site by the builders was to line up with the skies. Blocking the view is somewhat of a sin, IMO!
